Manifesto for 21st Century School Librarians

Lourens Das, president and coordinator of ENSIL (European Network for School Libraries and Information Literacy), has distributed this Manifesto for 21st century school librarians, document written by Joyce Valenza, an American school librarian.

This article shows a projection of the 21st century school librarian figure and provides a number of requirements that nowadays the professional in charge of school libraries should fulfill. It makes a review of the attitudes, skills and abilities in connection with reading, the world of information, communication, management of collections, places and services, the ability to cooperate and to use technologies, among others.

Finally a document that invites to reflect on moving forward to build the school librarian’s profile and define his or her duties.
